Frequently asked questions.
Questions about the program, admissions, costs, and how to get started. If your question isn't here, call us at (806) 319-5785.
How long is the program?
The program is 48 weeks. Weeks 1–42 are conducted online. Weeks 43–48 are six intensive in-person clinicals weeks at your matched partner college.
What does the $20 fee cover?
The $20 is a non-refundable application fee that covers your full admissions review, eligibility check, and partner college match. Tuition is completely separate and fully sponsored by Calby — you will never be charged for tuition.
Do I need prior college credits?
No. You do not need a college degree, prior healthcare experience, or any prerequisite coursework to apply. We evaluate applicants based on motivation and basic eligibility criteria.
What are the in-person clinical requirements?
You will need to take six weeks off for in-person clinicals at your matched partner college during the final phase of the program. This is the only mandatory in-person requirement. Your specific clinical location will be confirmed during admissions review.
Can I work while in the program?
Weeks 1–42 are online and designed to accommodate working adults — you complete coursework on a structured but flexible schedule. For the six in-person clinical weeks, you would need to arrange time off from work.
What's the difference between RN and LVN?
Registered Nurses (RN) have a broader scope of practice, typically earn higher salaries, and work in more advanced clinical settings. Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN, sometimes called LPN) complete a slightly shorter NCLEX preparation path and are in high demand in long-term care, home health, and clinics. See our RN vs LVN comparison for details.
Is the program accredited?
Calby partners with accredited colleges to deliver the program. When you are accepted, you will be matched with an accredited partner college whose coursework meets the requirements for sitting the NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN.
How do I get my license after completing the program?
After completing the coursework with 80% or above and your clinicals, you will receive your Calby certificate. You can then apply to your state's nursing board to sit for the NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN licensing exam. Calby provides NCLEX prep materials as part of the curriculum.
Is this program available in my state?
Calby's program is available nationwide across all 50 US states. Partner college matching takes your location into account for the clinicals requirement.
What happens after I pay the $20 fee?
You'll be redirected to a short application form immediately after payment. Once submitted, our admissions team will contact you within 5 business days via email and phone to complete your eligibility review.
